Weight Guidelines
How to calculate your body mass index (BMI)
- Your weight in kilograms / [Your height in meters × Your height in meters]
Example for 165 cm and 60 kg:
60 / (1.65 × 1.65) = 22.04
Healthy weight range
BMI 18.5-25 is consideredthe lowest health risk range, however,
- Individual factors like muscle mass, body composition, ethnicity, and health conditions should be considered.
- For example, Korean references set the maximum BMI at 23 instead of 25.
- Althought BMI is a good indicator of health risks, it is not the only factor to consider. Some doctors consider waist circumference more important than BMI. Reducing the waist circumference will also lower BMI anyway.
- Fitting to the recommended BMI range improves overall health, however, consult healthcare providers for personalized recommendations if you have special health concerns.
Example for 165 cm:
1.65 × 1.65 × 18.5 = 50.3 kg (minimum)
1.65 × 1.65 × 25 = 68 kg (maximum)
